Design of informational web site
Apr 2002
Trinity Church is an architectural landmark in Boston.
Even though the project was less technical than I usually take on, its
stature and visual potential made it appealing.
CHALLENGE
Trinity wanted a site that would make information easily to find for
parishioners. But they also wanted the site to attract visitors interested
in the building and architecture rather than worship services.
SOLUTION
The Trinity building is so visually striking, inside and out, that I
wanted to make its presence felt in the web site. The home page uses
tans and a strong red, which come from the building's exterior and interior
coloring. Inside, each section has a unique color and texture, and all
of these textures are drawn from actual motifs used in the interior
decor of Trinity. (see detail of
textures)
For ease of navigation, the top panel presents the
entire site through rollovers. However, because the structure was kept
simple, users are given a manageable number of choices and the panel
is easier to use than pop-up menus.
